South Rim of the Grand Canyon

The kids with Cindy

Taking a break.

Our family at the Grand Canyon.

We took a long trip to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon with Cindy and Jason during our vacation in May. We left at 4 am to start our trip. We had the DVD player in the car for the kids as the trip was 5 hours. We loaded the car and got ourselves ready for the journey waiting until we were leaving the driveway to wake the kids. Lilly was back to sleep before we left home. Will watched his favorite DVD ... Spongebob Squarepants. He stayed awake until we got to Orderville. I had to stop in Kanab for a potty break. Will woke up and again he was awake for the entire Spongebob movie. We stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam. We were just doing the tourist thing ... we were even going to do the tour because it was starting at 8 am and we thought it was 7:45. Well, to our surprise it was only 6:45 as we crossed the Utah border into Arizona. After some photos we were off on the long trip. Traveling through the Reservation was a good reminder of what we have. I am thankful that my house is in good repair. Most of the trailer houses had tires scattered on the roofs. They had little roadside shacks along the way. All the Native American families had little stores where they sold traditional goods. We never stopped but many others did. We got to the entrance to the park. It was a long trip from the entrance to anything. We spent the next 2 days touring and had a great time. Lilly and Cindy worked hard on the Junior Ranger Program. Lilly earned her title of Junior Ranger after her morning talk with a Ranger. We went on a fossil walk with the Ranger. He showed us a bunch of fossils. Even a Spongebob fossil. Now Grandpa and Grandma Flowers are on Lilly's List. They brought home a fossil from their last trip. Lilly lectured Grandpa on how we need to leave them in their home. She is now a conservationist. Well, I could go on and on .... but I am done.
